THE EXAMPLE OF SELÇUKLU DISTRICT IN COMBATING POVERTY

Abstract

Poverty is a significant issue that concerns humanity, the issue of combating poverty is also crucial. In the research, Selçuklu District of Konya was chosen, which has the largest population and the lowest poverty rate. It is aimed to investigate which policies and programs affect the poverty rate in the district and how they contribute to this success. The research is committed to supporting the adoption of existing policies and programs in the fight against poverty through a survey conducted at the scale of Konya Selçuklu District. Which constitutes the application part of the study, was limited to an online survey conducted with a certain number of participant, s. This study is unique concerning contributions to the field since no other study has been done about the Selçuklu district in the discipline of poverty studies before. In this study, the documents obtained on the subject and quantitative research method techniques are used as a method and an online survey method is conducted with 680 participants living in the district. The study concludes that while the social assistance provided is not sufficient, providing employment opportunities, eliminating income inequality, expanding vocational courses, and cash support are vital in the fight against poverty.
