SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS THROUGH MOVIE POSTERS:THE CASE OF CYPRUS FILM

Films, which are the main element of the cinema industry, reach the audience with the narrative structure they establish. These narratives are sometimes presented with a personal story, while sometimes they emphasize a historical event. Priority is given to national and spiritual values in the transformation of films into an artistic form as an element of visual richness. the struggle for independence on the island of Cyprus, which was won by intensive diplomacy and military interventions between 1974 and 1979, was also the subject of Yeşilçam films at that time. Dec. While the humanitarian struggle for the island of Cyprus is positioned at the center of the film’s narrative, common cultural values, where emotional kinship exists, are reconstructed in the minds. In this study, the posters of 6 films selected by random sampling from the Cyprus-themed films made after the Cyprus Peace Operation of 1974 are examined with semiotic analysis and the prominent visual elements are interpreted.
