The Relationship Between the Use of Social Media and Self-Respect in Adults: The Intermediating Role of Narcism

Abstract

 

In this article, it is aimed to determine whether narsism has a mediating role in the relationship  between social media use and self-esteem in individuals. To examine the sample of the research  with the presentation of 74 participants through random sampling, Social Media Use Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and Narcissism Personality Inventory were applied to this research. According to the results obtained, statistically significant ends were reached in the total and sub-dimension scores of social media use, self-esteem and narcissism in the context of various demographic variables (p<0.05). Moreover, no significant correlation was found in the analysis between narcissism and self-esteem variables while similar significant results were obtained in the simple regression analysis results between social media use and self-esteem (p> 0.05). In view of the results obtained in the study, significant relationships were observed between the use of social media, narcissism and self-esteem. The status of the research results in the literature has been reached by many research findings in the literature, but the targeted audience is not reached under the Pandemic conditions, and this has created a limitation for this study.
