Abstract

Abstract

The main question of this study is the institutional analysis of the functioning of the capitalist system on the basis of the concepts of Antonio Gramsci "hegemony", "counter-hegemony", "historical block" and "integral state" and the concepts "core", "periphery" and "semi-periphery" developed by Immanuel Wallerstein for class struggle. In this context, the aim is to focus on a series of eye-opening questions regarding how hegemony is produced in the field of civil society in Western Europe, where democratic principles gain an institutional character, and how the dependent classes should build counter-hegemony in order to establish a new historical block by ending the existence of the capitalist system. Relying on the ideas of Wallerstein, it is explained why the production of "plus value" for the capitalist world system to sustain its existence is necessary in terms of the class dominance of bourgeoisie so that capital accumulation can be ensured. While doing so, the hegemonic relationship between “core“, “periphery” and “semi-periphery” countries are taken into consideration. In addition, the function undertaken by the state to ensure the continuity of the capitalist system is also emphasized.
