Abstract

CHANGING SECURITY THREATS IN THE GLOBALIZING WORLD AFTER THE COLD WAR: THE RE-DEFINITION OF EU-NATO RELATIONS

In this study, the changing security concerns after the Cold War and the relations between NATO and the European Union were evaluated. With the collapse of the bipolar system after 1990, security threats have also changed and increased. In this context, the security threat, whose borders were clear during the Cold War, left its place to a new insecure environment with the winds of globalization, which led states and international organizations to restructure and cooperate in defense. The European Union, which was under the security umbrella of the USA during the Cold War period; With the collapse of the Iron Curtain, it started to expand its military and political structure within itself. While NATO added new threats to its post-Cold War agenda, the European Union continued its cooperation by trying to strengthen NATO's European pillar in order to maintain peace and stability in the region. In this context, in my study, the post-Cold War NATO-European Union relationship was reviewed and tried to be evaluated.
