Abstract

POPULISM AND ANTI-GENDER MOVEMENTS: THE CASE OF HUNGARY THE ORBAN GOVERNMENT IN PARTICULAR

In this study, the connection between populism and anti-genderism has been examined through Hungary. By examining populism in different countries, especially in the context of the Orban government, it is concluded that the right-wing populist ideology labels the concept of gender as a scapegoat in  the  adaptation of all  kinds  of  policies and  discourses, and how this situation took place in the political scenery of Hungary is explained with specific examples in the country. Anti-gender mobilization is implemented to support the Euroscepticism of right-wing populists, to eliminate the corrupted elite class wherever their own power may be at risk. It is clear that the Orban government in Hungary effectively benefits from gender opposition to establish its own hegemony and provides an advantage to support all dimensions of the ideological worldview, to implement policies for this purpose.
