INTERACTIONS BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS LAW, DEVELOPING TECHNOLOGY, CHANGING MEDIA, AND SOCIETY IN THE CASE OF TURKEY

Abstract

With technological developments, media platforms have moved to the Internet. The Internet has facilitated instantaneous interpersonal contact, creating virtual communities. Developing technology affects international human rights law in positive and negative ways. On the positive side, there are examples such as ending failings in the protection and recognition of human rights. However, there are also negative effects, such as the idea that inequality will become widespread, discrimination and hate crimes will increase. This article explores the interactions between technology, media, society, and international human rights law. In order to understand the reflections of these interactions in Turkey, an online survey was conducted as field research. The analysis of the survey data revealed that the participants is shifting from traditional to virtual society. According to the survey, the proliferation of the internet and advancements in technology in Turkey have played a significant role in fostering a culture of human rights and safeguarding vulnerable people. However, there are also concerns about the ability of the internet's to support the global human rights standards or that it can be used to polarize society.
