Abstract

Abstract

The urban spaces show a dynamic planning process renewed with various arrangements throughout history. In today's cities, the improvement of these arrangements through different disciplines provides the emergence of qualified spaces. Based on the occupancy-void relationship in the city, it is thought that architectural spaces should always have a communication with the city. At the intersection of urban space and architectural space, a third transition space exists in the city.  The relationship of these spaces with the city and the needs of the urban space today necessitate urban interior applications and definition. In urban area, the concept of urban interior, which is at the intersection of occupancy-void, internal-external concepts and defining a place where citizens can socialize, is the subject of this study. Purpose of this research is; to reach the potential areas of urban interiors in the city which are explained with different definitions, by investigating the spaces in the urban through urban theories. It is thought that the determination and improvement of these areas will constitute qualified urban spaces. In the scope of the research, firstly the literature about the city and the discourse about the urban space is under investigation. Because of the research, potential urban interior spaces are encountered in the definitions related to urban theories. For this reason, the theories of the city presented by various city researchers are examined. Subject of the research; by presenting Kevin Lynch, Rob Krier and Bill Hillier's different discourses on the city, with these discourses  the “potential urban interior” areas within the city are determined.
