ABSTRACT
As one of the oldest problems in human history, housing has been not only a physical space but also an area reflecting social structure, cultural values, economic conditions and lifestyles. This study aims to reveal the conversion of residential interior spaces in Ankara between 1931 and 2025. The research examines changes in residential interiors through architectural layout, spatial design, and functional distribution. The approach of the new capital to the problem and the proposed solutions are considered very important because they set an example for the whole country. In this study, using a historical research method, residential projects published in the journal (Mimar-Arkitekt-Mimarlık) the publication of the Chamber of Architects that has continued under three different names over time, were evaluated as the primary source. The plan schemes and interior layouts of the residential examples published in this journal were analyzed. This study focuses especially on the journal (Mimar-Arkitekt-Mimarlık) because they are still the most important and influential publications in the discipline of architecture in Turkey, published by the Chamber of Architects. This journal has enabled a consistent, long-term, and comparative examination of the conversion of residential interior space from 1931 to the present. This study reveals how residential interior space in case of Ankara have undergone a conversion over the course of nearly a century, alongside social, economic, and cultural changes, demonstrating a remarkable cycle.
