Abstract

By adopting the place where he is, people want to leave a trace in that area. The reflection of this instinct to leave a mark in architecture is in the form of bringing together cultural, economic, and political codes by considering the needs of the society and the individual in space design. At this point, cinema becomes a communication tool that deals with people and space.

Especially in the years known as the golden age of Turkish cinema (1960-1970), many Yeşilçam films were shot as remakes of Hollywood films. It is known that these remake films have differences such as shooting technique, use of space and similarities such as content details of the subject of the film. This research examines cinema as a type of documentation and spatially analyzes the original Hollywood movie The Sound of Music (Neşeli Günler, Robert Wise, 1965) from American cinema and Yeşilçam movie Sen Bir Meleksin (Nejat Saydam, 1969), a remake from Turkish cinema. is examining. The research, which is based on the analysis of the spaces in the films of the same scenario in two different countries, aims to determine the effects of the socio-cultural structure of the societies on the design and the intercultural differences by focusing especially on the interior elements.

Selected films are evaluated in detail in terms of film tag. In the analysis phase, the architectural formation (form, composition, facade analysis, location, etc.) and interior setup (plan organization, doors/entrance, stairs, furniture, color, texture, etc.) of the places where the movie scenes were shot should be compared according to the determined criteria. With this study, it is aimed to reveal the periodical references in the fields of cinematic spaces and interior architecture, which are in the background of the cinema and reflect the lifestyle of the period, and to create the interior setups in the cinema based on more objective data. In addition, with this study, it will be possible to reveal approaches belonging to different periods that will contribute to the history of interior design.
